Our day began as it normally does, waking up too tired and
eating a lovely piece of peanut butter toast and a glass of agua while Gemma
prepared our lunches to take on our picnic.
We had another day of our normal class schedule but this time with a
twist and made a short stop at the magazine stand along our way so I could
purchase a newspaper for my Spanish class discussion. We arrived to our Spanish class all together
and as usual began with singing and dancing, a great way to wake us up a
bit.
When classes all ended we gathered together and walked to
the Jarindes Real, which are the royal gardens right by our house for our group
picnic before heading off to the History of Valencia Museum. As you all have easily figured out by now,
we’re not the best group when it comes to directions so before going to the
museum Dr. Goetz and Holliday had to give us a run down of how the metro system
worked and what we were supposed to do, and thank goodness they did because
many people in the group including ourselves definitely needed a briefing
before heading to the underground.
When we finally arrived at the museum it was beautiful with
a stone waterfall as the entrance. The
building itself used to be the water reservoir for the city and is now
converted to the museum exhibition. The
museum was very dark inside, a little eerie, but very intriguing to see another
country’s history before your eyes.
After the museum we all headed our different ways and we returned to the
institute to meet our “intercambios.”
These are the students we are paired with to practice our Spanish and help
them with their English. We met Carlos
and our other intercambio was sick so we were told to meet her the following
day. He was very nice and looked younger
and seems like a lot of fun. He is from
the Islas Canarias and is studying English to help his engineering career.

For dinner we enjoyed a bowl of pasta with potatoes,
carrots, and chickpeas cooked in a chicken broth base. It was very simple yet delicious as
usual. Following dinner we got ready to
go out to celebrate our other Kappa Delta sister’s birthday in the group! The plan was to go salsa dancing but after
wandering the city…because no one knew the name or address of the place…the
group decided to head to one of the popular plazas and hang out. To our surprise while walking there we ran
into boys from Hampden Sydney! And yes
they were all dressed the part...pastel pants with polos and sunglass
holders. Not even knowing who they were
a bunch of us in the group called them out when we first saw them and said they
looked like “Hampsters.” We hung out
with them for a while until the group split and we ended up meeting a group of
people from Ireland. They were all a
very fun crowd.

Eventually we got bored of the place we were hanging out at
and headed to our next destination…where we found all the Hampsters again. I’ll give them credit they were actually a
fun group and may have looked the part of the typical Sydney boy but definitely
did not act that way…which is a great thing.
The large group we had had a great time hanging out with their group and
all plan to meet up again.
